GET HAPPY FEET
1. Woodland Park Zoo’s new penguin exhibit
The penguins are coming! Woodland Park Zoo is bringing Humboldt penguins back after a year’s absence, welcoming 10 breeding pairs of the endangered animals into a brand-new 17,000-square-foot habitat that replicates their natural environment. The aquatic exhibit also features an eco-friendly filtration system designed to save 3 million gallons a year, making Seattle’s newest transplants black, white and green all over. Opens 5/2, 9:30 a.m. Free with zoo admission. Woodland Park Zoo, 5500 Phinney Ave. N; 206.548.2500; zoo.org/penguins

COUNT TO 8
2. Georgetown Super 8 Film festival
Since user-friendly technology makes it possible to edit even silly home videos to perfection, it’s refreshing to find a few folks dedicated to filmmaking of the shaky, unedited sort. Now in its fourth year, the Georgetown Super 8 Film Festival celebrates the Super 8 format—warts and all—by showcasing amateur 3-minute movies made by locals of all stripes (filmmaker registration is now closed). Participants argue there’s no better way to understand your city than by seeing how it plays out in Super 8. 5/2. Check Web site for times, prices and screening locations: georgetownsuper8.com

ROLL WITH THE PUNCHES
3. Rat City Rollergirls championship
If you think Grave Danger, Derby Liberation Front, Throttle Rockets and Sockit Wenches are heavy-metal rock bands, you need to get out more—specifically to KeyArena to watch teams from Seattle’s Rat City Rollergirls league compete in their fifth annual championship. See if Derby Liberation Front can hold onto their 2008 title or if they’ll be beaten (literally) when these badass roller-derby divas battle it out for first place in the league. 5/30. 5:30 p.m. Prices vary. KeyArena, 305 Harrison St.; ratcityrollergirls.com

DRINK UP
4. Hop Scotch Spring Beer and Scotch Festival
Take part in two days of microbrew and Scotch tasting at the third annual Hop Scotch Spring Beer and Scotch Festival, a fundraiser for the Seattle International Film Festival. The event boasts more than 50 award-winning microbrews, including favorites from area breweries such as Hale’s, Georgetown and Lazy Boy—the last of which created Voracious Red specifically for the fest—and experts to answer every tipsy question. 5/8–5/9. Times and prices vary. Fremont Studios, 155 N 35th St.; 206.633.0422; hopscotchtasting.com

GORGE ON MUSIC
5. Sasquatch Music Festival
Music-loving locals consider three days spent listening to live bands outdoors in the gorgeous Gorge well worth the long drive and the port-o-potty, um, challenges. The Sasquatch Music Festival features more than 75 best-beloved indie bands, including Seattle-based faves old and new (the Murder City Devils, Fleet Foxes, Natalie Portman’s Shaved Head), Portlanders (the Decemberists, M. Ward), and big famous rockers such as Jane’s Addiction and Nine Inch Nails. Wow—feels like summer! 5/23–5/25. Prices vary. Gorge Amphitheatre, 754 Silica Road NW, George; sasquatchfestival.com
