We know you have an ever-changing appetite for arts—some days you’re hungry for something Shakespearean; others, you’re hankering for a taste of obscure modern dance. Luckily the Seattle arts scene offers something for your every mood. So open your datebook, take your artistic pulse and start scheduling.

FOR THE ARTS LOCAVORE
Whether it’s work by a Northwest choreographer, author, filmmaker or photographer, the message is the same: Think globally, view locally.

Live at Northwest Film Forum:
Bridging Wounds

In a multimedia, live performance, local dancer Ezra Dickinson, costume designer Tilla Kuenzli, artist Jamie Iacoli, musicians Paris Hurley and Paul Walsh and filmmaker Amanda Walsh use animation, original music and movement to explore the relationship between words and perception. 9/17–9/19. 8 p.m. $12–$15. Northwest Film Forum, 1515 12th Ave.; 206.829.7863

12th Annual Local
Sightings Film Festival

This premier showcase of Northwest filmmaking includes documentary and fiction, feature-length as well as short films, live performance, audience participation and installation art. Check Web site for schedule. 10/2–10/7. Times and prices vary. Northwest Film Forum, 1515 12th Ave.; 206.829.7863

Sherman Alexie
Controversial, passionate and always engaging (he was even given the Most Engaging Author award at the 2009 Indies Choice Book Awards), Alexie returns to Town Hall to read from his latest book of short stories, War Dances. The stories’ theme, as always, is the heartbreaking choice ordinary people must sometimes make between authenticity and duty. Presented by Elliott Bay Book Co. 10/6. 7:30 p.m. $5. Town Hall, 1119 Eighth Ave.; 206.624.6600

Robert Sperry: Bright Abyss
A major retrospective of the work of Sperry, who was an innovative UW ceramics faculty member for 30 years (1955–1998). Featuring more than 70 works, including sculpture and wall plaques, the exhibit attests to Sperry’s persistence as an innovator of the “crawl glaze,” a difficult technique that he perfected. 10/10–1/31/2010. Times and prices vary. Bellevue Arts Museum, 510 Bellevue Way NE, Bellevue; 425.519.0770

“Truth or Dare” with Rebecca Brown, Keri Healey and Eric McHenry
Season three of the Hugo Literary Series opens with prose stylist Brown (Gifts of the Body), playwright Healey (The Ikea Cycle) and poet McHenry (The Potscrubber Lullabies), with music by Seattle hip-hop artist Macklemore. We double-dog dare you to miss this stellar lineup. 10/23. 7:30 p.m. Prices vary. Richard Hugo House, 1132 11th Ave.; 206.322.7030

Running the Numbers: An American Self-Portrait
The first comprehensive exhibition of Seattle photographer Chris Jordan’s stunning work gives a visual representation of everyday objects that Americans consume in unimaginable quantities. Example: “Skull with Cigarettes” (above), an image made from 200,000 packs of cigarettes. The same number of Americans die from smoking every six months. 10/13–1/3/2010. Times and prices vary. Pacific Science Center, 200 Second Ave. N; 206.443.2001; pacsci.org
