The RE Store’s Eighth Annual Haute Trash Fashion Show on April 17

Our economy may be in the Dumpster—but that’s not the reason one of the city’s most anticipated fashion shows features couture crafted entirely from castoffs. Timed to coincide with Earth Day festivities, the RE Store’s Haute Trash Fashion Show is all about recycling. In previous years, the event has featured a wedding gown made from Styrofoam take-out containers, a party dress made from covers of The Stranger newspaper and a cocktail dress composed of purple velvet Crown Royal bags. Clearly, the bar for this year’s event has been set high. Also, don’t miss two companion recycled art exhibits—one at the RE Store, featuring work by kids in grades K–12 (4/4–4/25), and the other a juried showcase of work by grown-ups at Blowing Sands Glass Studio (4/11–5/7; blowingsands.com). You may never throw anything into the recycling bin again.

8 p.m. $10. At the New York Fashion Academy, 5201 Ballard Ave. NW; 206.297.9119; re-store.org
