Beauty Scoop: Vegan Facials
| By Sarah Mackay |
No animals were harmed in the making of these facials
In a city that’s home base to companies making vegan doughnuts (mightyo.com), vegan purses (crystalynkae.com) and vegan sausages (fieldroast.com), it’s perhaps not a shock to discover a wealth of vegan facial options as well. While most skin treatments don’t involve slathering your mug in meat, some do use animal-derived ingredients, such as dairy, egg or honey, and others rely on chemical concoctions. But several Seattle spas cater to clients who prefer to keep their skin regime animal- and chemical-free.
Mode: An Organic Salon (Downtown 1424 Fourth Ave.; 206.632.0195) will concoct its Strawberry Bliss facial for vegans upon request (leaving out the honey); ingredients include mashed strawberries and lemon juice. At Fresh Facials (Green Lake, 402 NE 72nd St., #7; 206.265.9546), vegan choices include the Signature European Facial with a cucumber masque and papaya enzyme peel. And pumpkin—popping up on a lot of restaurant menus this month—is also on the menu at Seattle Art of Wellness Spa (Madrona, 1125 34th Ave., Suite A; 206.324.3552) (which uses vegan products by Eminence) in the form of a Pumpkin Latte Hydration masque, which contains pumpkin, soy and several plant oils. Or order up a vegan massage, scrub or wrap to get an all-over animal-free glow.
