KUNDIG'S TO DO LIST Art Stable
This seven-story artists’ live-work space, developed by Point 32 (point32.com), will open on South Lake Union next summer. Kundig’s design, described by developer Chris Rogers as a contemporary take on a turn-of-the-century warehouse, calls for artist-friendly features, including ceilings that are higher than 11 feet, floor-to-ceiling window walls, full units measuring 4,200 square feet and movable wall panels and built-in cranes so projects of varying scale can be accommodated and artwork easily shifted. As of press time, three of the five lofts had been sold to artists and art collectors. Candela Hotel and Residences Kundig’s first high rise, developed by Urban Visions (urbanvisions.com) and set to open on Second Avenue and Pike Street in 2009, will feature a 19-story tower dedicated to a luxury hotel and spa, and a 35-story tower of private condos. The design, which is targeting a LEED gold certification, calls for green roofs, solar and wind power, and a striking sunken courtyard populated with towering Douglas firs. 1900 First Avenue Hotel and Condominiums Developed by Douglas Howe of Touchstone (touchstonecorp.com), this 11-story project is kitty-corner from the iconic Inn at the Market. The Inn’s developer, Robert Thurston, will run this 100-room boutique hotel. The building will also house a restaurant, spa, and as much as15,000 square feet of high-end retail and 75 luxury apartments. 55 Bell Street
An urban-infill project from first-time developers Martin and Alex Tobias (he owns Seattle Biodiesel), set to open in, will mix street-level retail, two floors of office space and five floors of apartments, all boasting Puget Sound views. Kundig’s design meshes a sophisticated, industrial aesthetic with green elements, such as solar roof panels. |
