How to add brilliant flair to any room

Just steps from the bustle of downtown Seattle, the public spaces of the beautiful new Escala condominium complex (1920 Fourth Ave.) are an oasis of urban sophistication where European elegance blends with contemporary Northwest flair. Stroll through the lobby and marvel at grand open spaces expertly punctuated with dramatic furnishings, unusual finishes, striking artwork and antique accessories. Luxurious lighting helps set the mood. From a hand-blown glass chandelier by local artist Robert Kaindl (425.750.0003) that seems to float luminously above the central staircase, to delicate polished metal sconces and handsome carved glass table lamps, each lighting fixture has been chosen carefully to illuminate the spectacular setting. “Unusual lighting choices were key selections in the design process,” notes Rich Holliday, the project’s interior designer and design director for Masins Fine Furnishings. “I sought out unique, imaginative pieces, art objects of sculptural beauty, and placed them to maximize design impact.” The overall effect is pure glamour.

Looking to add some sparkle to your dwelling with a piece of luxe lighting art? Check out a few of my favorites: Thomas Pheasant’s neoclassical designs for Baker and Robert Kuo’s bold creations for McGuire (available at Masins; Seattle, 206.622.5606, two Bellevue locations, 425.450.9999 or 425.453.1300), alabaster vase lamps by Exteso at Seva Home (900 Lenora St., Seattle; 206.323.9920) and the frosted glass brilliance of the Lalique lighting collection at Alvin Goldfarb Jeweler (Seattle, 206.264.9393; Bellevue, 425.454.9393). You’ll see how a marvelous lamp, or two, becomes an illuminated work of art and a focal point in any room.
