Fashion School
| By Lei Ann Shiramizu |
Gretchen Freeman knows what it’s like to be a fashion-hungry student on a cheap-eats budget. That’s why the Seattle Art Institute grad opened her U-District shop, Turquoise—to give young women an elegant, affordable boutique to call their own. In the classy environment with gray/white brocade wallpaper and blue velvet curtains, nothing costs more than $75, including colorful layering pieces such as camisoles, tees, hoodies and leggings ($9.50–$39.50), stylish totes ($29.50–$49.50) and top-quality jeans ($34.50–$59.50), so a girl can try something trendy without breaking the bank. Unveiled in April, Turquoise reflects Freeman’s focus on delivering customer service to make shoppers comfortable as they discover their own personal style.
