Call for Artists

4Culture has Seattle all ears for art
Say you’re going about your day, heading to work or running an errand, and suddenly something catches your eye: an intriguing piece of outdoor art. I wonder who made that? you think. When was it put here? What is it about? Thanks to 4Culture (King County’s cultural arts organization), the answers are now a cell phone call away. Launched in October, the Listen4Culture program serves as an audio tour of downtown Seattle’s public artwork. Call the phone number on the plaque near the art, enter the code for the specific work and hear a narrator or the artist (or both) talk about the history of, and inspiration for, the piece. It’s a simple way to get connected with the art all around you, and provides a remarkable sense of ownership: my city, my art. Check 4Culture’s Web site for a complete list of artwork included. Sure, you can peruse photos and listen to the audio tour online as well, but it just isn’t the same as being up close to art.
