Road Trip: Edison
| By Kelly Lemons |
WHERE: Edison, a tiny village along Skagit County’s northern edge.
WHY: To partake in this budding locavore destination.
FIRST STOP: Rhododendron Café, where locally grown and raised ingredients are used in worldly recipes like Spanish paella and Indonesian Thai seafood stew.
NEXT UP: Check out Slough Food’s retail selection of Seattle-made Theo chocolates and locally crafted goat cheese from Gothberg Farms in Skagit Valley, or try Breadfarm bakery next door, where organic artisan bread and preserves are baked or bottled on site.
WHILE YOU’RE THERE: Drive south about 10 miles to experience Skagit Valley’s vibrant Tulip Festival (all month).
EXTRA CREDIT: Head north a few miles on Chuckanut Drive for easy-to-hike trails along Chuckanut Ridge with stunning views of the San Juans and Cascades.
