Spectrum Dance dreams of China in its newest piece
Art with a mission: This installment explores human rights issues through movement
Seattle’s Spectrum Dance is midway through an ambitious three-year initiative called Beyond Dance: Promoting Awareness and Mutual Understanding (PAMU), during which director and choreographer Donald Byrd explores social justice and human rights issues through movement. Farewell: A Fantastical Contemplation on America’s Relationship with China—the second of the three planned installments—tackles 9/11, Tiananmen Square, financial ties and cultural psyches. Byrd, as you may have guessed, is never one to make it easy on himself. Prices vary. 2/18–2/20 8 p.m. Moore Theatre, 1932 Second Ave.; 877.784.4849; stgpresents.org
