Local dancers will Break a Heart at On the Boards
An homage to the pinkest of holidays
Looking for love in all the wrong places? Perhaps you should seek it out at a modern dance show. This could be your lucky week—not one but two local venues are showcasing dance performances on Valentine’s Day. Indie mainstay On the Boards has the world premiere of Break a Heart, featuring beloved Seattle choreographers and dancers (including Wade Madsen, Crispin Spaeth and Jody Kuehner) performing a cabaret-style homage (or is it a roast?) to the pinkest of holidays (2/11–2/14. $18. 8 p.m. On the Boards, 100 W Roy; ontheboards.org). Across the lake, Stone Dance Productions is holding the third annual Chop Shop: Bodies of Work festival, featuring performances by local dancers (last year’s event included such luminaries as choreographer Mark Haim and PNB’s Olivier Wevers) who “strongly value the relationship between audience and performer.” Sounds like Cupid would approve (2/13–2/14. Times vary. $20–$25. Theatre at Meydenbauer Center, 11100 NE Sixth St., Bellevue; info: chopshopbodiesofwork.blogspot.com; tix: brownpapertickets.com).
