If you've made your way to Capitol Hill's newest speakeasy-themed bar,  Tavern Law, you're probably as enamored with the prohibition-era cocktails and 20's-era vibe as I am. You've also probably noticed that getting into the upstairs speakeasy can be hit-or miss. Party size and what day of the week it is are likely to influence whether you'll score a table in this small (I haven't confirmed but there can't be more than 25 seats) hideaway. One way around the embarassment of being turned down or told to wait 45 mintues for a table? Book the entire speakeasy.

Last week, I used the space to host my own special occassion celebration: my 27th birthday. Armed with two dozen cupcakes, me and 20 or so of my closest friends took over the cozy bar for three hours. As for the logisitics, our party needed to meet a minimum (I was quoted anywhere from $800-$1,200, depending on how long you reserve the space). Fair warning though: if you don't meet the minimum, be prepared to pay the difference (which is likely to be the case with a smaller party or a group doing drinks-only).
