The art of capturing youthful emotion in music is no easy task. Perhaps that's why San Francisco band, Girls, channeled the sounds of artists who've come to symbolize past generations' young heartache and angst in their debut LP, Album. Listen closely to these songs and you'll hear the rasp of Elvis Costello, the complex summery, harmonies of The Beach Boys and the classic 50s rhthyms of Buddy Holly--all filtered through a 2009 Dolores Park hipster lens. Songwriter and vocalist Christopher Owens has a clear gift for celebrating summer vay-cay apathy with lyrics like, "oh, I wish I had a sun tan. I wish I had a pizza and a bottle of wine," peppered throughout the 44-minute album. Forget the Vitamin D supplements, get out of the rain and see the band for yourself at Neumos for a burst of summer sun. 11/17. $12 adv. 8 p.m. Neumos, 925 E Pike St. neumos.com
