So guys, have you ever wondered what's your style? Luxury? Classic? Contemporary or Trend? Well, ponder no more -- Nordstrom has distilled men's dressing with their equivalent of 'Sartorial Style for Dummies.' Divided into six chapters -- suits, sport coats, trousers, shirts, neckwear and tuxedos -- Nordstrom Guide to Men's Style promises to help you identify your personal look while demystifying the jargon used by menswear experts.
As I thumbed through a preview of the manuscript, I mused about what man would read this tome on tailored clothing, especially in our fleece-infested city. Simply written and packed with information, it's scannable with lots of pictures, snappy bullet points and quick style tips like: "Choose the highest-quality tie you can ... Always pass up a tie with sewing mistakes or puckers."
Maybe I'm myopic, but I rarely see men wearing ties, or for that matter, any garment faintly resembling a suit. Perhaps I need to move up into snazzier circles.
Published by Chronicle, the book is penned by men's style guru Tom Julian, a New York marketing consultant. I hadn't heard of him before, but after Googling and talking with a few of my ex-coworkers from Nordstrom, I reckon we'll be throwing his name around a lot more in the future.
The hardcover handbook will be available for $19.95 where else but Nordstrom and online in mid-May, just in time for educating the freshly minted graduate. Or, if dad is sartorially challenged, get him a copy for his day so he too can start using terms like 'besom' and 'kissing buttons.'
Thank goodness metrosexual isn't mentioned once.
