Isabella Rossellini Speaks at SAL

Whether you know her as the daughter of Ingrid Bergman, the face of Lancôme cosmetics, the nightclub singer in Blue Velvet or Alec Baldwin’s ex-wife on 30 Rock, you know Isabella Rossellini excels at whatever role she sets herself to—no matter how bizarre. Take for example her latest endeavor, Green Porno, a series of short films she has written/directed/starred in, which uses simple, paper sets and costuming to elucidate the reproductive habits of insects and marine animals—and thereby send an eco message about why we shouldn't take these species for granted.

If this sounds weird, it most definitely is, but in the very best of ways. See for yourself by watching a few of the Green Pornos at The Sundance Channel web site (where all seasons are available in streaming video).

Here's the one about the lowly earthworm (dirty in more ways than one!):

She’ll discuss the series—along with the new book based on it—as part of the Seattle Arts & Lectures series tonight: 7:30 p.m. $10–$75. Benaroya Hall, 200 University St.; 206.621.2230; lectures.org

I just checked and it looks like tix are still available, so grab a couple and head to Benaroya. It's not every evening in Seattle that you get the chance to see a smart, gorgeous superstar talking about green porn!

She was awesome. I love her description of modeling as an important art form, just a very small art form "like embroidery".
