Farmers Market Calendar

I'm a south-ender who can't wait for Wednesday, when my local Columbia City farmers market opens (3-7 p.m.). But most of the neighborhood markets open this month; here's the line-up.

North-enders can shop the Wallingford market (Wed., 3-7 p.m.) beginning May 20th; the Magnolia market (Sat., 10 a.m.-2 p.m.) beginning May 23rd; the Phinney Ridge market (Fri., 3-7 p.m.) beginning May 29th; or wait until June for the terrific Lake City market (Thu., 3-7 p.m.) and the Queen Anne market (Thu., 3-7 p.m.) which debuts June 18th.

Those who live in central Seattle can return to the Broadway market (Sun., 11 a.m.-3 p.m.) on May 10th, or drop by the Madison/Madrona market (Fri., 3-7 p.m.), which debuts May 16th. But those who can't wait can make the trip south on Rainier for the Columbia City market (Wed., 3-7p.m.) beginning this Wedesday, April 29th. For those living farther south, there's a great market in downtown Renton (Tue., 3-7 p.m.) which starts June 2nd.

Of course, the year-round markets—West Seattle (Sun., 10 a.m.-2 p.m.), University District (Sat., 9 a.m.-2 p.m.) and Ballard (Sun., 10 a.m.-3 p.m.)—continue throughout spring and summer. For info on chef demonstrations and exact locations go to seattlefarmersmarkets.org/, www.fremontmarket.com, qafma.org/, or www.gorenton.com/farmersmarket.htm

Know of another great market? Send it to me (allison.scheff@seattlemag.com) and I'll add it to the list. Happy market-going.
