FRIDAY, JUNE 12
2009 Northwest Pinball & Gameroom Show
With more than 200 pinball and arcade games beckoning, the Northwest Pinball & Gameroom Show is definitely worth peeling yourself off the couch and setting down your Xbox controls. Dated from the 1950s to present day, the huge variety of games is open for free play (that’s right, free) with the price of admission. Festivities also include tournaments, raffles and more than a dozen top-level players competing for new world records. And hardcore gamers won’t want to miss guest speakers like Brian Schmidt, who has designed both sound and music for pinball games including Batman Forever, The Simpsons and Star Wars. 6/12-6/14. Prices and times vary. Seattle Center, 305 Harrison St.; 360.929.1198; nwpinballshow.com
SATURDAY, JUNE 13
Northwest New Works at On The Boards
On the Boards’ annual Northwest New Works fest is the place to discover up-and-coming local talent. Featuring 18 artists and companies from Portland, Seattle and Vancouver, British Columbia, this year’s two-weekend fest will showcase new pieces from dance superstars Mary Sheldon Scott and Zoe Scofield, performance art by the wack-tastic Helsinki Syndrome and beautiful music by Sunday Service. Overwhelmingly good stuff. 6/12-6/14. Times vary. $14. On the Boards, 100 W Roy St.; 206.217.9888; ontheboards.com
SUNDAY, JUNE 14
Chris Crites
Seattle’s one and only bag painter, Chris Crites, brings his love for recycled materials (paper bags) and recycled images (he is known for using local historical mug shots as subject matter) to Roq La Rue gallery this summer. The exhibit will feature larger-scale versions of the portraits that helped Crites make a splash at SAM Gallery Introductions show last spring. New for this exhibit: works on paper other than grocery bags! Through 7/3. Times vary. Free. Roq La Rue, 2312 Second Ave.; 206.374.8977; bagpainter.com
