Old fashioned treats at Magnolia's Seattle Pie

I was charmed by Alyssa Lewis the minute I walked into her quaint shop, Seattle Pie. Though busy baking pies, she still took the time to offer me a sample of her banana cream pie and build me a sensational meatloaf sandwich ($6.95), made with soft, chewy bread baked daily by Momma Enza of neighboring restaurant La Mondellina. After years of working at a pie shop in Snohomish, Lewis and her husband, Patrick, moved their family to Magnolia to open Seattle Pie in July. And so far, so good: Packed tables at lunchtime, when families stop in for sandwiches and slices of flaky-crusted pie ($3.50–$5/slice, $14.92–$17.95/pie), speak to the neighborhood’s enthusiasm for her endeavor. Her fruit fillings—apple, strawberry-rhubarb, among the two dozen on offer—are a perfect balance of tart and sweet; her cream pies are swoon-worthy; and her seasonal pies (pumpkin, mincemeat, sweet potato) won’t disappoint, either. Lunch and dinner daily. Magnolia, 3111 W McGraw St.; 206.718.8591 ¢
