Alexander Calder: A Balancing Act
Thursday, October 15 - Sunday, April 11, 2010
Over a long career that included making pull-toys and designing stage sets for Martha Graham, the American sculptor Alexander Calder honed his colorful, kinetic vision. Though it’s hard to miss his giant orange-red “Eagle” now permanently perched at the Olympic Sculpture Park, for this show SAM has brought together many seldom-seen examples of Calder’s jewelry, mobiles and soaring sculpture, dating from 1927 through the mid-1970s. Includes a captivating exhibit of photographs of the artist at work.
