5 Foodie Events Offer a Taste of Summer

Don’t know about you, but we’re so ready to say bye bye to a rotten June! Bah humbug.

Here are a few ways to celebrate “summer” this weekend, no matter what the thermometer says:

1. This year’s first Salmon-Enchanted Evening dinner is Saturday in Victor Steinbrueck Park, just north of the Pike Place Market. It’s not just a screaming deal at $15 for a fish-centric din din, this outdoor feast is also a fundraiser for the Seattle Parks Department. And, yes, Tommy D will be there dishing it up. If you didn’t buy advance tickets, just bring cash or check.

2. Test the watery limits of what it means to get food to-go at Daniel’s Broiler in Leschi. Just pull your boat (or yacht) up to the dock and a swift server will run your meal out. If you’d rather dine on land — or sample the summer grilling menu on the deck with the best view in Seattle, it’s free moorage during dinner. Anchors aweigh!

3. Check out the free chef/author demos at area farmers markets. Jess Thompson is going to demo a duck sandwich from her new book Pike Place Market Recipes with Brian Jones of Pear Delicatessen at noon Sunday on the cobblestones at the Market, followed at 2 by Bruce Naftaly of (closing June 30… this Saturday!) Le Gourmand. Show up and give him a hug!

4. Get the scoop at Cupcake Royale’s new ice cream shop at 106 Pine, site of a former wine shop, next door to The Chocolate Box.

5. While Wimbledon tennis fans are on and on about strawberries and cream, we cannot wait to sink our fangs into Theo’s chocolate-covered juicy gems (shown below). These Hayton Farms berries wearing a cocoa coating are available Friday only at Theo’s headquarters in Fremont. Sweet!
