5 Tasty Food Dates For Your Summer Calendar

One of the many reasons summer goes by too darned quickly? There are just so many neat-o things to do. (Make time slow down, so we can do more!) Here are a few options to add to your already crammed culinary calendar:

1. Get to know your guts. This Saturday’s U-District Farmers Market is dedicated to offal, with snout-to-tail books featured at a University Bookstore booth, an organ meat demo by Brandon Sheard of Farmstead Meatsmith at 9:30, followed at 11 by a cooking lesson from offal enthusiasts chef Dustin Ronspies from Art of the Table. It’s no coinickdink that this celebration of “Offaly Tasty” things falls on Bastille Day because, of course, the French know how to dazzle diners with the stuff that makes most folks go ewww!

2. Usually, we’re not a big fan of Mondays, but Madison Park Conservatory‘s new dinner series just might turn us around on the beginning of the work week. Every “Monday/Monday/Monday”, Cormac Mahoney and Zoi Antonitsas collaborate with a featured winery or/and farmer to create a four-course feast for $42. Stokesberry Farm and Local Roots produce launched this series last week. On July 16, the spotlight’s on El Corazon Wines from Walla Walla. And book your rezzie right now for July 23, when Cormac’s fellow Food & Wine Best New Chef, Jenn Louis from Lincoln Restaurant and Sunshine Tavern in Portland, is in da house. Don’t know about you, but we love it when cheffies from PDX come to SEA. Follow MPC on Facebook to get the Monday updates.

3. We never need an excuse to go hang at the fab-tastic Olympic Sculpture Park, but the Thursday series of free concerts and food trucks is an added bonus. It’s part of the Get Out summer series. The music starts at 5:30, but the early birds start staking out their picnic spots much earlier. (What’s the dealie-o with those giant pillows?) The snack bar’s open inside during summer months, also selling beer and wine that can be enjoyed outside during the shows, but it’s hard to resist the fragrance beckoning from the Curry Now truck.

4. Self-confessed farmers market addict — is there a 12-step program for that? — Seth Caswell is celebrating the season by cooking special dinners each Thursday from the beautiful stuff he scores at the Queen Anne Farmers Market down the block from his restaurant, emmer & rye. Caswell’s got a new deck out back he’s super excited about, too, crafting a menu bursting with summer flavors throughout the week.

5. Fill ‘er up! That’s what diners who have dinner at The Capital Grille can say during the Generous Pour event, which continues until Sept. 2. For $25, the restaurant offers an all-you-can-drink selection of wines by the glass selected by the company’s master sommelier. OK, the object is not to get blotto, but to try something new to you. And the pickings are phat: Ferrari-Carano’s Mountain Reserve Cab, Villa Mt. Eden’s Reserve Pinot noir and Conn Creek Cab, all fine partners for a big slab of beef. We’ll have a little bit of all three!
