SAVOUR seeks to satisfy the most whimsical taste buds

The next time a friend invites you to a dinner party, you might consider saying yes—and then gently suggesting she do her shopping at SAVOUR (Ballard, 2242 NW Market St. 206.789.0775 savourspecialtyfoods.com). The specialty food shop, which opened in Ballard last December, features delicious deli offerings and gourmet packaged foods—including bacon chocolate, truffle honey and those much-coveted pickles from Seattle’s Boat Street Café. Owners Holly McLean and Steve Klemaier are well versed in the art of small business (McLean’s family ran McLean Shoe Store in Port Angeles for more than 60 years), and passionate about the many flavors and ingredients they’ve encountered while traveling. Plus, they welcome requests: In the first month after opening, McLean tracked down fig vinaigrette and poultry brine for customers. In their cheerful store, you’ll find everything you need for an evening of entertaining, from glassware and linen napkins to locally made Macrina Bakery breads and varieties of olive oils, salts and spicy mustard. The deli menu is simple and appealing, with an array of imported charcuterie, local cheeses and pâté, plus quiche by the slice and irresistible macaroni and cheese. The store hosts wine tastings regularly, and counter staff will happily recommend wine or beer pairings from the shelves—so you can host your own perfect dinner party.
