Clogs, Bracelets and Exceptional Neckwear

By Seattle Mag December 14, 2010

The Mile High Club

Once reserved for crunchy hippies and backyard gardening, the most banal of shoes has been reinvented by Karl Lagerfeld into a luxe, 6-inch wooden marvel. Debuting at his spring 2010 Chanel runway show, the new sky-high clog has since left behind its rustic roots, as easy slip-on styles crop up all over town.

Clockwise from top left: Cordovan leather Sven clog with a 3¼-inch heel and wooden base, $180, available at Show Pony in Fremont; Jessica Simpson “Winsy” rugged brown/natural goat leather 4-inch high heel clog with leather braiding detail, $88.95, and Diane Von Furstenberg bark oiled leather and bark mesh 4-inch platform wood clogs, $295, both at Nordstrom; Salpy “Dallas” bronze and olive metallic snakeskin clog, $380, available at J. Gilbert downtown; Chanel black leather 6-inch-heel wood mule clogs with brass studded detail, $945, at Neiman Marcus in Bellevue.

Fully Stacked
From rough-and-tumble leather cuffs to dainty gemstone circlets, mix, match and stack these locally made bracelets for instant arm candy.

Middle row from left: Queen Anne–based Michelle Lenáe “Shala” Peruvian opal, rutilated quartz, citrine, chrysoprase, andalucite and mother of pearl 14K gold bracelet, $220, available at The Finerie downtown (michellelenae.com); Columbia City–based Regina Chang 24K gold and electroplated druzy agate bracelet with turquoise teardrop, gold-filled nugget horseshoe charm and toggle closure, $128, available at Hitchcock in Madrona. Bottom row from left: West Seattle–based Rocco e Dante chunky Tara leather wrap-around cuff with zipper, $58, available at Clutch downtown (roccoedante.com); Kimberly Baker “Natasha” gold cuff made from metal cast of a ribbon, $395, paired with “Cordelia” 18K gold vermeil over sterling silver cuff, $725, available at Kimberly Baker Studio in Fremont (kimberlybaker.com).

All Tied Up
Ties have stepped outside corporate bounds, with gents and ladies alike embracing the new casual, everyday appeal of the classic accessory. Several local designers have Seattleites tied up in style, with European flounces, intricate stitchwork and even a jaunty update on the bowtie.

Checked black-, gray- and mustard-colored silk bowtie by Capitol Hill–based Michael Cepress Designs, $68, available at Velouria on Capitol Hill (michaelcepress.com); Corvatt Parrish snakeskin-pattern silk tie with back neck clip enclosure by Capitol Hill–based Built for Man, $90, available at David Lawrence at The Bravern (builtforman.com); Woven cotton moss green tie made from vintage shirt fabric with hand-stitched tree detailing by Bitter Lake–based Angel Eyes, $35, available at Velouria and Pretty Parlor, both on Capitol Hill (angeleyesdesigns.net).
