3/9 • David Montgomery is dirty. A geomorphologist at the University of Washington’s Department of Earth and Space Sciences and recent recipient of the coveted MacArthur genius award, Montgomery not only studies dirt, he rocks his own garage band named Big Dirt. At Town Hall, he’ll talk about his book, Dirt: The Erosion of Civilizations (2007), which outlines how Earth’s civilizations have been treating our soil like dirt. But he’s not all doom and gloom—he has a plan to save our soil! No word on whether he’ll set it to music. See Montgomery for yourelf at Town Hall Monday, March 9.

7:30 p.m. $5. Town Hall, 1119 Eighth Ave.; 206.652.4255; townhallseattle.org
