Cheap Eats: Zippy's Giant Burgers
It used to be that a visit to Zippy’s involved squeezing into a cramped space or waiting outside in the mini-mart parking lot for your burger.
Now that Zippy’s has relocated to a corner spot in White Center, there are red vinyl booths, plenty of tables and a lot more breathing room. And I love Zippy’s delicious burgers even more.
The secret at Zippy’s is that irresistible deep, dark, salty-beef-meets-hot-griddle crust on the patties. Add cheese and bacon ($5.75) and you’re well on your way to burger happiness, but the spicy-smoky No. 11 ($6), topped with Mama Lil’s sweet pickled peppers and chipotle mayo is my sure-thing choice.
The Lil Zips keep the tots happy, and for $2.25, you can’t beat the price. But feel free to go to the other extreme: The “King Lou Lou,” aimed at daredevils and meatheads, is four patties, eight pieces of bacon, grilled onions, quadruple cheese, chipotle mayo, lettuce, tomato, all topped with a Lil Zip with cheese “crown” ($14.25).
