Devastating storm continues to affect Washingtonians. We experienced clear skies and sunshine yesterday, but many throughout the state are still recuperating from this weekend’s severe windstorm that caused power outages for more than 300,000 Washington residents, major river flooding, mudslides and road closures. However, far more tragic were the three deaths that resulted from the storm. Many are still living without power, and communities throughout the state are dealing with flooding and high water levels. The National Weather Service issued flood warnings for many Western Washington rivers Wednesday morning, which can be found here.

All the (Seattle) single ladies…have a cat. According to new data, one in every 10 single Seattle-area women is living with a furry feline companion, ranking Seattle second in the nation for the percentage of women living “alone” with a cat. As The Seattle Times reported, this isn’t totally surprising. Seattle is occupied by more than 60,000 solitary women, and cats make great urban pets. However, the reason why cats are more popular among women than men remains a mystery.

Facebook has epic plans for new Seattle space. The social media giant is relocating its Seattle office, and plans for the new office space suggest they are working hard to recruit other techies to the city. Plans for the office include a large rooftop park (with a walking trail! On a roof! In the city!), a giant fire pit and dining area, and a covered cafeteria and events space. The designs were drawn up by the renowned architect, Frank Gehry, who designed the EMP Museum and Facebook’s Building 20 in Menlo, Calif. The new space will have room for up to 2,000 employees, suggesting major growth from the 500 employees when Facebook announced plans to move in February.

Uber volcalizes Seattleites’ wish: airport pickup. In a letter to port commissioners obtained on Wednesday, Uber demanded that the Port of Seattle allow airport pickups. Uber’s Seattle general manager Brooke Steger claimed it is “indefensible” that drivers are “uniquely unable to pick up passengers at SeaTac — even as those same drivers safely drop off thousands of passengers at SeaTac every week.” Lyft and Uber drivers are prevented from retrieving riders due to a contract that only allowed Yellow Cab to transport arriving travelers. However, this contract expired in October, and Uber’s patience is waning. Steger stated, “For months, the Commission and Port administration have told Uber that it was just a matter of time until pickups were authorized… October has now passed, and we appear no closer to a resolution. Instead, we are told to tell drivers and riders that they need to wait yet again.”
