King County has the highest survival rate of cardiac arrest in the world–that’s according to analysis by county officials, who put the survival percentage for 2013 at 62 percent–other urban areas such as Chicago or New York City rank in single digit percentages. That number has gone up dramatically in the last decade, and is thanks to factors including an above-average regional paramedic training program, public availability of automatic external defibrillators, and 911 operators having the ability to give CPR instructions by phone, among a few other things.

We’ve posted previously on other local heart-healthy stats, such as Swedish Cherry Hill’s ranking as the best heart surgery center in the state.
