Home Birth on the Rise
Home births are on the rise—and most common in the Pacific Northwest, according to the National Center for Health Statistics of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. In Washington, 3.4 percent of women opt for home births (Alaska has the highest rate of home births—6 percent).
In Seattle, there are many childbirth options, and the popularity of natural birth means that many hospitals include information about midwives and doulas, in addition to ob-gyns, as part of their childbirth options. For more, see our story, "Baby Talk," which includes the top childbirth centers in the area.
