The New Year has just started, and already there’s plenty of spirited news from our local bars and distilleries. If this is any herald for the rest of the upcoming year, then we’re in for a tasty 12 months. Check out the below to get your 2016 started right.

Two New Bars From Rob Roy Royalty: Rob Roy owners Anu and Chris Elford (also fairly recently hitched) will open two new bars in Belltown this summer: Navy Strength will have a nautical slant, with tiki traditionals like Mai Tais alongside more modern mixes, and No Anchor will have a smallish indoor space and outdoor patio, plus a really interesting beer spotlight. Anu Elford will be driving the first, and Chris Elford the second, but don’t worry about their original, as it’ll be in the capable hands of Rob Roy manager Jesse Cyr.

Local 360 Distiller Series Starts Tonight! Going forward, Belltown’s Local 360 Café & Bar will be hosting one of our swell distilleries on the second Thursday of every month to allow patrons to taste product and interact with the people that make it. And they’re kicking it off right tonight, by bringing in one of my favorites, the Seattle Distilling Company, which won KING 5’s Best Distillery of Western Washington for 2015. From 4 to 10 p.m., you can enjoy a number of cocktails using Seattle Distilling Co.’s bottled beauties, including one that mingles its single malt whiskey and coffee liqueur with orange bitters and molasses, and talk to the friendly folks behind the distillery. Upcoming distillers in the series include 3 Howls (2/11) and 2bar Spirits (3/10).

Help Out and Show Your Spirit with 12th Blend Wines: With the playoffs (Go Hawks!) continuing this weekend, it’s the perfect time to serve up 12th Blend wines (a Chenin Blanc, a medium-bodied and flavorful red, and a rosé of merlot, all from Eye of Needle Winery), which just recently won a Best of the Best Platinum Award from Wine Press Northwest. For every bottle bought, the winery serves two people meals via Northwest Harvest. It’s a fantastic way to do some good, while enjoying good wine and what promises to be a good game.

More Drinks Supporting Snow Leopards: A few weeks back we told you about Snow Leopard Vodka, and how it donates a percentage of sales to the Seattle-based Snow Leopard Trust. And our local bartenders were paying attention, as a number of swell sippers utilizing this spelt grain-based vodka are ringing in the New Year on local menus, including highlights Who’s a Good Girl? at Witness (with Snow Leopard Vodka, Giffard vanilla, amaretto, chocolate bitters, and a flamed orange peel), and the Bubbalu at Single Shot (with Snow Leopard Vodka, Mandarine Napoleon liqueur, Ancho Reyes, Old Fashioned bitters, and soda). These provide even more good ways to drink and help out a good cause.
