Seattle keyboardist, composer and experimental jazz fixture Wayne Horvitz has never shied away from mixing things up—and now he’s bringing a fresh idea to the local music scene.
Partnering with restaurateurs Steve Freeborn and Tia Matthies (owners of OK Hotel and Rendezvous, among others) he’s created The Royal Room, a new music venue, restaurant, bar and “project room” that opened in December. Located next door to Columbia City’s Royal Esquire Club, the venue boasts live music every night of the week, plus dinner, late-night and weekend brunch menus.
Prioritizing musicians, The Royal Room features a full set of instruments (a “permanent back line”) and recording equipment on-site, and offers extended residencies for special projects.
You’ll hear locals playing a variety of genres, including jazz, classical, alt-rock, big band and experimental. With legendary Horvitz at the helm, we’re expecting big, beautiful things.
