A new book by local undergarment experts does more than lift and separate

Jennifer Manuel Carroll, owner of Fremont’s popular Bellefleur Lingerie Boutique (bellefleurlingerie.com), and local writer Kathy Schultz have teamed up to offer lingerie lessons for both the novice and the naughty in Underneath It All: A Girl’s Guide to Buying, Wearing and Loving Lingerie ($13.95; Harlequin Press). “Sometimes it’s the little things we put on that make the biggest difference,” says Carroll. The book debunks the idea that lingerie is reserved for Valentine’s Day and Victoria Secret models, arguing that modern lingerie includes everything from lacy unmentionables to granny panties. To help women find a flattering fit within their personal style, the book decodes the language of lingerie (is a demi-cup a bra or an ice cream treat?) and offers quizzes to determine whether your type is Romantic Whimsical, Sexy Seductress or somewhere in between. A launch party and book signings are scheduled for Seattle (see underneathitallthebook.com for details), where you can start to build on your foundation garments.
