Know this about Mother’s Day brunch: Pretty much every restaurant in Seattle has one. Some are better than others, and most will book up with reservations long before we write this. That’s why we decided to eschew a long list of restaurants and instead give you some cool cooking classes to take with mom anytime of day.

Morning

Take her to Pike Place Market for Eat Seattle’s Mother’s Day Brunch cooking class at the Market’s Atrium Kitchen. Start with a truncated tour of the Market where class takers learn how to shop for what they’ll cook and eat in the class to follow. The menu for what moms and guests will be preparing and enjoying is scrumptious: latke with gravlax, pickled red onion and lemon caper tzatziki, spring vegetable hash with poached egg and herbed hollandaise, and a liege waffle with rhubarb curd, local strawberries and maple cream. Day: May 8. Time: 10:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Cost: $99. Sign up here.

Afternoon

More of a high tea momma? Kiddos 8 and older can take their mothers to Bellevue’s Whisk for an afternoon class of baking old-fashioned tea party goodies. In this class, cookbook author Gill Dey will teach guests how to make salmon pinwheel sandwiches, light fresh cream scones and more. Day: May 8. Time: 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Cost: $75 for one adult and one child 8 or older. Sign up here.

Night

If mom wants to learn the art of a restaurant-quality, 3-course dinner from a recent contestant on Food Network’s Chopped, treat her to chef Aaron Tekulve’s (Surrell Dinners) cooking class at Whisk in Bellevue. Tekulve, who has cooked in the kitchens at Lark and Cafe Juanita, will teach students how to create Chinook salmon with baby fennel, asparagus, morels and lemon creme fraiche; English peas and smoked bacon soup with chevre and salted marcona almonds; and rhubarb strawberry almond crisp with smoked vanilla ice cream. Day: May 8. Time: 5 to 8 p.m. Cost: $110. Sign up here.
