Uber Could Soon Pick Up at Sea-Tac, Light Rail Station Photos

So long, Silicon Valley: According to Seattle-based Redfin, “For the first time ever, the median price for a Silicon Valley home just exceeded one million dollars,” which means that people are leaving the area simply because they can’t afford to stay. Just where are they headed? The Puget Sound Business Journal notes that “one in every 13 prospective homebuyers who live in the Bay area is looking for homes only in the Pacific Northwest.” Our tech industry is growing to rival that of San Francisco’s and our cost of living is much lower, so it makes sense. Of course, not everyone is happy about our burgeoning tech scene and our influx of new residents.
Pot shops: New legislation, which goes into effect in 2016, will impact “about half” of the city’s unregulated marijuana dispensaries, according to King 5 News. Yesterday, Mayor Ed Murray “announced plans to require a new special business license for marijuana establishments, akin to those required for taxi operators and pawn shops.” While the law is supposed to protect legal retailers from “unfair and unlicensed competition,” opponents worry that it will result in higher prices and fewer options.
Expect constructon at 1823 Eastlake Avenue E as workers prep the site for two mixed-use buildings and a pedestrian path.
Good news for Uber, Sidecar and Lyft fans: You might soon be able to hail one of the ridesharing services at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport. According to KIRO 7 News, The Port of Seattle has been “in negotiations” with the three companies to provide their services at the airport. Ridesharing companies are currently blocked from picking up at Sea-Tac due to Yellow Cab’s five-year contract, which expires this October. Uber et al could begin picking up passengers in June or July.
