UberEats rolls out in Seattle

Order, track and pay for lunch like an Uber ride

Beginning Oct. 7, you might consider having Uber bring your favorite pork belly pinch buns to you instead of taking an Uber to Kraken Congee for lunch.

When it launches next week, Seattle will be the 10th city to get UberEats, the on-demand meal service that guarantees delivery of hometown eats in 10 minutes or less. UberEats will be available for lunch on weekdays from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Pioneer Square, Belltown, Lower Queen Anne, South Lake Union, Capitol Hill and Downtown.

It works much like dialing a ride. Open the app on your smartphone, enter your address or move the pin to your location and tap ‘View Menu.’ Select the number of meals, tap ‘Place Order’ and meet your driver at curbside. There a flat delivery fee and even a meal split feature if you’re ordering for friends.

At presstime, there were 20 restaurants on board and counting, including Gnocchi Bar, Meat & Bread, Japonessa, Kukai Ramen, and, yes, Kraken Congee. Meal options are pre-arranged and can not be customized. On next week’s menu: drunken chicken from Monsoon, pulled pork from Skillet Diner and a trio of salads from Volunteer Park Cafe. Dishes range in price from $8 to $12.
