5/1-5/31 // With an eye toward inequality and injustice, Bellingham artist Dale Gottlieb’s subject matter includes Martin Luther King Jr., the Tuskegee airmen and Abraham Lincoln. Telling stories first through painted images and spare cursive writing, Gottlieb then sends her creations to Nepal, where they are knotted into rugs by a Tibetan carpet-maker whom she met while traveling. The exhibit of arresting carpets is a perfect fit for Garde Rail Gallery’s focus on self-taught, folk and outsider art. Wed.–Sat., 11 a.m.–5 p.m. Free. Garde Rail Gallery, 110 Third Ave. S; 206.621.1055; garde-rail.com.
