WSDOT Traffic@wsdot_traffic
Who knew you could make traffic fun? The Washington State Department of Transportation knows that posting clever gifs when I-5’s at a standstill may make you less apt to give someone the finger. (But hey, what are you doing looking at your phone, anyway?) WSDOT’s social media lord also excels at giving minute-to-minute updates on accidents, construction and road conditions, which can ease any commute.

Pike Place Market@pike_place
What’s more Seattle than Pike Place Market? Keep up with all market happenings via its Twitter handle, which cranks out stunning photos of fresh produce, local vendor profiles, chef and market community news, and special event announcements (bunny party, anyone?). It’s also a great source for updates on the completion of the market’s waterfront expansion, set for late June 2017.

Kenny G@kennyg
Yes, that Kenny G. Your Twitter is nothing without the original sexy sax man. Kenny G is from Seattle, and got his start in funk and jazz right here in the Pacific Northwest. The G-man seems to have a pretty good sense of humor about everything from his name to those luscious, curly locks and it shines in his tweets. You can also keep up on all his live appearances, including a string of sold-out dates he just wrapped at Jazz Alley.

Sub Pop Records, @subpop
It’s only natural the label that first signed Nirvana would have an awesome Twitter handle for local music fans. You can track the history of Sleater-Kinney, keep up with happenings at the Sea-Tac retail store and stay up to date on artists from Americana-crooner Father John Misty to noise-rap group clipping. You’ll also be the first to know when a rare, coveted internship or job becomes available, and be privy to the label’s infamous sense of irony, which permeates its feed (i.e. “Going out of business since 1988.”). More like pushing 30 in 2017.

GeekWire, @geekwire
Seattle’s GeekWire is a great way to stay apprised on all things tech. GeekWire stays up to date with news from Microsoft, Amazon, Google and Apple and notifies readers of new apps, startups, job openings, mobile developments and products worth checking out. It also gives a fun look into geek culture, and into the tech industry that is swiftly reshaping in Seattle.

Bill Nye@BillNye
For those of you who don’t know, Bill Nye the Science Guy is indeed a Seattleite. He posts all his interesting scientific finds, and his peers’ findings, on his Twitter, making it the perfect resource to learn about new discoveries, fight for the environment and understand the science behind a hangover.

Seattle Police Department, @SeattlePD
With over 400,000 followers, this one of the most-followed Seattle-centric accounts. For good reason: Seattle PD keeps you up-to-date on incidents like shootings, missing people and traffic accidents in real time so you can stay safe and informed. SPD’s feed has levity too—they recently got some hilarious national love for going to Hempest and passing out Doritos to potheads with the munchies.

Matthew Inman/The Oatmeal, @Oatmeal
The Oatmeal creator Matthew Inman lives in Seattle, and his comics are clever, weird and hilarious. Here you can keep up on his latest, from how to tie the perfect man bun to the four (really different!) seasons of Seattle weather

Easy Street Records@EasyStRecords
Seattle’s enduring, independent record store on the westside has impeccable taste and its Twitter account helps keep you apprised of what’s new in music, both locally and nationally. Plus, Easy Street has one of the coolest cafes around, with menu items inspired by pop music icons (one Hank Williams Western Omelet, please!). Watch this handle for sales, ticket giveaways, in-store performances and deals.

REI@REI
This Seattle-grown outdoors company tweets amazing nature photos, product deals and campaign alerts like “The Weekend Challenge,” which solicits your pics of your adventure crew in the outdoors. REI has also launched another progressive initiative that celebrates women by encouraging them to spend more time outside. Look no further for a tweet storm of strong, talented women.
