Because It’s Hot Out There: Boozy Shave Ice at Ma Kai

Well hello there, high 70s. Why don’t you stick around for a while?

And why don’t you–and you–and you–cut out a little early, head over to Marination Ma Kai and settle into a groovy green chair on the sunny patio with a shivery cold scoop of their booze-soaked Shave Ice?

Co-owner Roz Edison tells me there are a few rotating (seasonal) flavors, but the most popular is the Mai Kai, a play on a mai tai made with rum, pineapple juice, house-made guava syrup and lime. (There are also several non-boozy shave ice flavors, too.)

Did you know you can take the water taxi from Pier 50 pretty much right to Marination’s front door? And did you know you can enjoy the same mind-blowing views as those you’d get sitting in the swank confines of Salty’s from Marination Ma Kai’s drop-in-happy (and much more budget-friendly) locale?

True and true. So, what are you waiting for?
