Let’s be honest. This headline should read ‘Yay, we don’t have to drive to Capitol Hill for a slice of Big Mario’s anymore!’

Guild Seattle, the group that owns Big Mario’s New York Style Pizza, has opened its second location serving divine perfectly crisp, thin crust pizza. As we reported this summer, it is one of a slew of new pizza places opening up by the end of 2015.

The interior is super groovy and old-school, as you’d expect. Red booths come from the old Piecora’s pizzeria that closed back in April. White art deco walls are covered with framed photos of namesake Mario Vellotti, who emigrated from Naples, Italy to New York City in the 1960s to toss pizzas and cook in prestigious kitchens before opening his own world-famous pizzerias in all five burroughs. Good thing for us he decided to move west to Seattle.

Few cheese-and-bread combinations beat a simple, foldable slice ($3) of Big Mario’s cheese pizza but they do have a full menu that includes specialty pizzas and seasonal offerings, like, at the moment, caramelized pears and rosemary potatoes. If you like sriracha, try their version with artichoke hearts. Damn fine.

The new Big Mario’s Pizza is located in the shadow of the Space Needle, next to Caffe Vita at 815 5th Ave North. For more information, visit Big Mario’s Pizza.
