Blaine Wetzel from the Willows Inn Wins James Beard Award for Rising Star Chef

The highly anticipated 2014 James Beard Awards ceremony was last night, and Blaine Wetzel from the Willows Inn on Lummi Island walked away with a medalion for Rising Star Chef. He tied with Jimmy Bannos Jr. of Chicago’s Purple Pig.

Other than that, it was a disappointing evening for the Seattle contingent: Ethan Stowell (Ethan Stowell Restaurants), Renee Erickson (The Whale Wins, Walrus and the Carpenter) and Jason Franey (Canlis) lost out to Portland's Naomi Pomeroy (Beast);  and Grace restaurant in Chicago won over Josh Henderson and Matthew Parker (Westward) for best restaurant design.

Last Friday, Shauna James and Dan Ahern took home a JBA in the Book Awards (Focus on Health category) for Gluten-Free Girl Every Day.
