Seattle's 4th of July Fireworks Are Saved!

Just one day after restaurateur Tom Douglas announced his plan on Dave Ross’ radio show to donate $5,000 to save the Lake Union Fourth of July fireworks show (formerly sponsored by Washington Mutual and then Chase), and asked other business owners to follow suit, the necessary $500,000 was raised. Many local business owners made donations in $1,000 increments, while Starbucks and Microsoft both pledged matching donations of $125,000 each. Though this year’s fireworks show will go on, the nonprofit that organizes the show, One Reel, is still looking for corporate sponsors for 2011 in an effort to continue the Seattle summer tradition.
