The men of Seattle have a new place to get gussied up. Bishops Barbershop, a Portland-based mini-chain opened their first Seattle location downtown this week. And, ok, both guys and gals are welcome at Bishops, which offers cuts and color, but their hot towel shaves and beard care makes Bishops especially attractive to the moustachioed and bearded among us. Local artist Baso Fibonacci created huge 20-foot wide bear and owl spray painted murals on two of the salon’s walls to reflect Bishops style of edgy artwork and on-trend style.
I was out and about visiting stores the other day and noticed an overwhelming nautical trend abounding. Flourish in Phinney is doing it right with this red, white and buoy themed table, which includes the Swedish Dream Sea Salt soap that I am obsessed with. Ludlow Home, an amazing shop across the street, also had some adorable tumblers with anchors on them that I wished I'd snapped a picture of.
Belltown consignment boutique, Sell Your Sole, announced a new program today called Couture Karma, shaking up the consignment split on luxury designer brands. From now on, customers who consign Chanel, Alexander McQueen, Balenciaga, Chloe, Celine, Bottega Venetta, Tom Ford, Gucci, YSL and Louis Vuitton will receive a 70/30 split (70 percent to the seller) once their item has sold.
It’s happening! Friday, June 14, the new Jonathan Adler store in University Village is opening, bringing with it an enthusiastic burst of color, style and feel-good design.
This is the 25th boutique for the New York-based Adler, who wowed the interior design world with his quirky pottery goods in the mid-nineties, launching his first ceramic line at Barneys in 1994.
A wonderful thing happened during the current cocktail revolution. While mixologists were carefully crafting, their enthusiast spirits spilled over and booze-free drinks have gotten a whole lot more interesting.
I’m pretty high on the shrubs, tonics and house-made sodas showing up on drink menus. I’m sweet on sours. And, especially this time of year, I’m a sucker for a good old-fashioned lemonade.

The local nonprofit, which serves to connect people who are interested in environmental issues, is turning 10 and is celebrating with a blowout birthday bash. In a SoDo warehouse. With 1,000 of its closest friends.
New designer Paychi Guh is popping up at the new Hointer at Pacific Place (which just opened on June 1) with a special trunk show on Friday and Saturday, June 7 and 8 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Check out this new line of super-soft cashmere sweaters and scarves while trying out Hointer's tech-forward, app-based denim shopping experience.
Pacific Place is Hointer's third location, including one in Wallingford and Palo Alto, CA.
After seven hours and four partially victorious attempts, the Seattle Public Library managed to successfully complete a complex, weaving and winding book domino chain with 2,131 books. Credit is still pending from RecordSetter as to whether or not it actually set the world record for longest book domino chain. (The previous record used a meager 1,000 tomes.)
Jewelry designer Eddie Borgo, winner of the 2011 CFDA Swarovski Award for innovation in accessory design, is making a personal appearance at the downtown Nordstrom on Friday, June 7 from 1 to 4 p.m. in Via C.
