Blue Moon Burger specials
Kelly Cline is making it pretty near impossible to stick to that New Year’s juice fast resolution. She’s the clever creator of Blue Moon Burger’s monthly specials and for January, she’s cooked up a sandwich that evokes crunchy, corny childhood memories. Especially if you spent some formative years shoveling Frito Pie into your gaping maw! What? You’ve never heard of Frito Pie? Well, it’s kind of like poor man’s nachos, with chili and cheese plopped on top of a bag of those chips.

In a bid to take over the waxing world, The Wax Bar owner Karen Jahn has opened a new location in Laurelhurst this month, joining salons in West Seattle and Ballard. The Wax Bar offers personal waxing services from the brow to the bikini lines, ears, nose and toes, a very special service that involves a Brazilian and a Swarovski crystal tattoo, and all manner of facials and other skincare. In addition, The Wax Bar is the only spa in Washington state with a liquor license, for enjoyment and liquid courage.

Quillisascut Farm e-book
Winter on a farm isn't exactly chill. There are still chores, animals to tend, seed catalogs to be pored over.

By far one of my most fav stores in Seattle (one I sadly rarely get to visit because I've always got my kids with me) is Far4. I just love Jenny and Yuri's eye for sophisticated, but totally eccentric and unique, home decor, jewelry, accessories and of course, porcelain. It's sale time at Far4 with all items in the store at least 10 percent off, including 15 percent off jewelry and 20 percent off 2-D art. The kids are with the nanny today—I'm so there.

Borghetti Coffee Liqueur
When rolling out your New Year’s resolutions, get past the usual suspects. Sure, losing a few pounds or deciding to read more Dickens is an honorable idea. But a resolution you may actually keep is trying more intriguing spirits and liqueurs, especially if you begin with these five:

It's cold, gross and rainy and all you want to be is cozy. Good thing Icebreaker has come to town. Located in the old Betsey Johnson store on Fifth Avenue, Icebreaker is a New Zealand company that uses Merino wool to make a line of clothing that is perfect for Seattle. It's wool, so it's warm. It breathes, so it wicks away moisture from the body and helps regulate body temperature. It's soft, which is nice.

You were bombarded with big box store sales before Christmas, and now that it’s after New Year’s let’s gently lay out the small boutique sales. They’re so much more pleasant to shop: Sandylew 40 percent off every little “thang.” Charlie & May 40 to 50 percent off of most store inventory including gift and home décor items. La Ree 30 to 60 percent off all the brands you love to covet, including Isabel Marant, Alexander Wang and APC.

I like it better when we don’t lose our designers to New York, but it happens. And when it does, they often have a sale, so that’s a good thing. I guess. We lost Irene Wood last year and this year's it's accessory designer Rian Berry, whose crew is picking up and heading east soon, but not before selling off their inventory of slouchy-chic bags and scarves (for men and women) from both the Rian and the Poverty Flats by Rian lines.

Named one of Seattle magazine's Most Influential People of 2012 for her Pink Carpet Project (a response to the Susan G. Eileen Fisher has been making women look chic and feel good since 1984. The downtown Seattle store has been open for 15 years—and many of the same employees who opened the shop are still working there—which is a testament to how awesome an organization it is.

I was in fourth grade in 1982, the year “Fast Times at Ridgemont High” came out and while I probably didn’t understand much about the movie, I knew that Spicoli’s black and white checkerboard slip-on Vans were super cool and that I wanted a pair for Christmas, which I got and wore to shreds around Lakeridge Elementary on Mercer Island where I grew up.
