I spend a lot of time talking about local cocktails and spirits that are served in our lounges, bars and taverns, but less time discussing the eats that accompany those drinks. Which is funny because I like to eat. So, here’s a list of my favorite bar nibbles in Seattle. It’s by no means exhaustive (if there are some you think I’ve missed, please let me know in the comments), but covers those delectable edibles I’d reach for first to snack on with a cocktail.
Updated information: You know that the fantastic West Seattle Brewing Company is serving up pints after the race, and now we hear that Chopstix and Curb Jumper Street Eats will be on hand, too, for that necessary post-race sustenance.

Marination Ma Kai looks a lot different inside. There's a few new touches, including soft lighting, splashes of orange and dark gray paint, counter seating that overlooks the water (best view in the house), and a surfboard hanging from the ceiling. It really looks amazing (said while typing from the bar). Co-owner Kamala Saxton says the new decor is just phase one: "We have murals and other stuff coming!"
Broadway’s Panevino has a few more nights of service before transitioning into Corretto (416 Broadway East), a coffee shop by day and an Italian trattoria featuring cocktails and handmade pastas by night.
The Bellevue Collection always, always does such a stellar job with their fashion shows and there’s one coming up for you to enjoy. Style Blooms is Bellevue Square’s ode to spring style, happening this year on Saturday, April 26 at 9 a.m. in Center Court.
Given Capitol Hill denizen’s predilection for thrifting and vintage, the placement of Goodwill’s 24th store smack dab in the heart of this thriving nabe, in the old Half Price Books (up behind Glo’s) is a match made in heaven. The new store is 15,000 square feet of donated goods with a lot of life left to give and employs 40 people, which is what Goodwill is all about.
After five years in the West Edge, the ever-amazing Jack Straw moved to the Terminal Sales building across from Pike Place Market on First Ave this spring, next to Baby & Company in the space previously inhabited by Peter Miller Books.
Some sweet and sour news pertaining to desserts here in Seattle.
First the sour: Sugar Mt. Bake Shop is no longer in the plans to be part of Kurt Dammeier’s smoked meats emporium, Max’s, slated to open in South Lake Union early next year. Dammeier needs the space for extra seating, so the bakeshop will have to find another home (SLU is the goal!). Also, nobody wants cakes that taste like a bonfire, am I right?
