One of the key challenges in debating gun safety is a lack of concrete information on the impacts and causes of gun violence, driven, in large part, by a nearly two-decades-long ban on funding Centers for Disease Control research into the topic. As a result, the conversation often turns anecdotal and ideological, and leads to serious misconceptions including scapegoating mentally ill people as more likely to be violent than the rest of the population, a belief Stacey Schultz

Edie’s Shoes/Scout Apparel owner Erin Dolan has announced the closure of Scout mid-June due to the re-imagining of the block on which her shops live. (We reported on Edie’s moving a few weeks ago, up to the former Brocklind’s costume building.) No word yet of a clearance sale, but we’ll keep you updated if we hear of anything.

Most of us fall into one of two groups. There are the daydreamers, who fantasize about opening a bakery, cafe, bistro or restaurant of their very own one day. They imagine the space, the tables and chairs, the lighting, and of course what kind of food they'd serve.

After almost seven years, Phinney Ridge’s Hip Zephyr is moving to Mercer Island (2727 78th Ave. SE) this June. The tiny 350 square-foot shop, which carries a nice selection of denim, and other casual wear, including many brands not found elsewhere in town, is moving to a 1,200 square-foot space recently vacated by What to Wear, an 11 year-old boutique also known for their selection of denim, and other casual wear.

Few things have changed as much as the drink landscape in the past 10 to 15 years. As bartenders focus on combining fantastic ingredients with inspiration from the past, all while using ultra-modern techniques, they’re churning out more good and inventive cocktails than ever before. But what’s going to happen next? To find out, I picked the brains of four local bar-and-spirit stars.

After an employee walked off the job last night at a Ballard Taco Bell (the restaurant closed two hours early due to short staffing, The Stranger reports), Seattle is facing citywide strikes today at dozens of chains including Burger King, McDonald's, Subway and Arby's.

Bastille Cafe & Bar Rooftop dinners
Upon moving to Seattle last fall, I experienced a solid month of awestruck disbelief over not only the mountains (I’m from the mountain-less Rust Belt), but also the incredible food. I spent my days eating and staring into vistas, not entirely believing that the mountains were real or that they were here to stay. If I wasn’t ceaselessly asking friends, “Have you seen the mountains today?” I was chirping about a local restaurant that I had just tried.

Starting today, NuBe Green is cleaning shop. Head to this Capitol Hill emporium of feel-good and functional, US-made furniture, gifts, clothing and home goods for their four-day storewide garage sale. Through Saturday, June 1, find most items marked down between 20 and 50 percent. It’s a goody!

Oh, boy. Snagging an open table at Glo’s felt a little like winning the breakfast lottery. The Capitol Hill diner is tiny and there’s almost always a line out the door brimming with hungover hipsters and senior citizens and everyone else in between willing to wait for one of the best damn morning meals in Seattle. And, sure enough, almost as soon as I sat down, the dozen tables were filled again, a lone server taking care of the whole room with utter efficiency.
