It’s that time of year again, when every type of pundit (good and bad) puts together his or her end-of-the-year picks. But this year (see last year’s People Have Spoken post if you missed it), I wanted to get some end-of-year cocktail, bar and spirit favs from those who don’t write about the stuff for a living, but just enjoy it. Three things: Christmas is less than two weeks away. (How did that happen?). The US Post Office needs your support. (Buy stamps.) And New Year’s cards are a lovely option if Christmas isn’t your jam. I have a very chic friend who wears her Melinda Maria Goddess of Love necklace everyday, layering it with her other posh pieces and looking amazing like it’s no big thing at all. If your preschooler is anything like mine, he’s in constant motion, loves anything that keeps him that way and is raring to get on some wheels and go for it. Beloved childrens musician and folk singer, Elizabeth Mitchell, has released a new album just in time for the holidays. Called The Sounding Joy, this festive album is inspired by the 1953 American Folk Songs for Christmas songbook by Ruth Crawford Seeger, the step mother of famed folk singer, Pete Seeger, and features a cadre of special guests, including Natalie Merchant (10,000 Maniacs), Dane Zane and Pete Seeger's sister Peggy.

The Rob Roy Cocktail Advent Calendar may be the best part of the holidays, and I’m super excited that it’s back. If you somehow missed it in the past, here’s how it goes. Every day from the 1st of December until Christmas, Rob Roy (2332 Second Avenue) unveils a delicious seasonal drink. So, if you didn’t already know about it, you’ve missed a couple days, but there are many left!

Last year, Francisco Hernandez, the owner, designer and visionary behind men’s clothing line Built For Man created a yak ornament, made in Nepal, with proceeds benefitting the Early Rehabilitation Center (ERC), a Nepalese non profit committed to the welfare of special needs kids in that country.

When was the last time you sat down and had a nice, ice-cold Budweiser? Like 2007, right? According to this piece in USA Today, beer (and when they say beer, they mean the moderately priced, mass-produced, watery schlock that we all downed in college) is just not selling the way it used to.
