This weekend brings us the 34th annual Pilchuck Auction, something of a "fashion week" for Seattle glass art collectors.
In addition to hosting a swank gala and tours of the school's Stanwood campus, Pilchuck organizes an enormous auction of glass art made by Pilchuck students, teachers and alumni. Proceeds benefit scholarship programs at the school, which is now recognized as the premier glassblowing program in the nation.
Same sex marriage is not only on the November ballot in Seattle, it's on the minds of people all over the country. As was pointed out in our current story on local same sex couples, this is the civil rights issue of our time. Jim Lehrer hosts and the topics have been announced as follows: The Economy, parts 1, 2 and 3 (a new series from George R. R. Martin?), health care, role of government and governing.
In August, the Space Needle announced its Top This contest, an open call for submissions of original designs that will temporarily decorate the top of the Space Needle—a celebration to culminate many celebrations of the 50th anniversary of the Space Needle's existence and the 1962 World's Fair.
