Consider the connective tissue holding a long-term marriage together: a web of understanding based on personal history—years of discussion, arguments, realizations, inside jokes, terms of endearment, intimate gestures, memories of private moments. Then think about a spouse suddenly losing all that backstory, and in the process, losing the personality that made you fall in love with him or her in the first place. Supreme Court Legalizes Gay Marriage In a landmark 5-4 ruling, the U.S. Supreme Court just legalized gay marriage across all 50 states, NPR reports. It was previously only legal in 35, and given this decision, 14 states will be forced to remove their bans. Here's some of the reactions from a few of Seattle's leaders:
