Since my toes are still thawing out from my walk to the office this morning, I think it’s safe to state, “Baby it’s cold outside.” And since it is that glorious time of year to snuggle up by the fire and get warm and cozy with a book, I’m devoting today’s gift lineup to all things soft and cuddly.

We could all use a bit of R & R right about now as we all scramble to finish off those last minutes gifts and baked goodies for co-workers, am I right? Thus I am not going to sit here and pontificate: Boys, your ladies will love these sweet beauty items and pampering memberships. Ladies, your girlfriends will, too. Now, zen out.   $20 Julep Nail Salons’ ‘Julep Maven’ membership

In the January issue, I review the charming and very delicious Travelers Thali House on Beacon Hill. It's a bittersweet review for me because the restaurant is so good, so welcoming, and the food is lovely in so many ways. But where is everyone?

It is quite tempting to intro this spirits-, brews- and beer-related post with big exclamation points following a drawn-out exclamation: “Booze!” But I will try to keep things classy and restrain myself. This statement probably comes as little surprise given our occupations, but the Seattle mag edit staff is full of paper geeks. We heart old-school letterpress, still believe in hand-written thank you notes and nothing delights us more than picking up our Ilee desktop calendars every December. Sure, we all spend our days hammering out words on a keyboard, but there is something imminently thoughtful and intimate about a paper gift from these local crafters- we’re betting your friends and family will agree.

Top o’ the morning! We’re kicking off this week’s lineup of our holiday gift guide with oh-so-Northwest books written by Seattle magazine friends including forager Langdon Cook and spirits expert A.J. Rathbun. Stay tuned this week for more local gift ideas (jewelry, easy-to-grab-hostess favors and booze-inspired gifts will all debut by Friday!) as we offer new suggestions each weekday through December 23.
