It’s looking like a heat wave this week, perfect timing for a Drifting Arrows swimwear trunk show at Madewell! This locally designed bathing suit line, owned by Leah Lawrence, is full of bandeaus and high-waisted bottoms, as well as one-pieces with dramatic (but not overly sexy) neck- and back-lines.

Even though they moved into their Pacific Place digs just a few years ago (from their first location at City Centre), the Seattle Barneys has just undergone a refresh. A Barney's spokesperson tells me that they’ve expanded the leather goods section by 100 percent and combined men’s and women’s ready-to-wear on the second floor so members of both genders can shop together.

This is one of those sales that shoe- and indie designer-loving shoppers wait for: Lambs Ear summer sale.  Enjoy 30 percent off some amazing, unique, distinctive and comforable oxfords, sandals, ankle boots and even a moccasin from LD Tuttle, Isabel Marant, Hope and my personal current obsession, Beatrice Valenzuela.

Fashion and lifestyle editor Ali Brownrigg and arts and culture editor Brangien Davis attended Tuesday's press preview of the Future Beauty exhibit at SAM. Herewith, a few of their shots from the magnificent space. Future Beauty: 30 Years of Japanese Fashion starts June 27 and runs through September 8. Read more about it here.

Lauren Wallace notecards Seattle magazine
We may use e-mail and texts for day-to-day communiqués, but somehow a virtual thank-you note still falls flat, which is why it’s essential to have a stash of notecards at your disposal—like these from Green Lake’s Balue/Co.

One-size wonder dress Seattle magazine Seattle designers
“One size fits all” is a tricky phrase, especially for those who don’t fit into that one size. But when it’s generous and versatile, a one-size garment is a miracle, which is what interior designer April Pride has created with her miracle dress, actually called The Dress, which serves as a first foray into fashion for this Madison Park mom. Inspired by a vintage hand-me-down from her mother-in-law that had been custom-made from Italian men’s shirting, Pride’s dress will fit most body shapes, thanks to its flattering button-up halter top, extra-long obi-style belt and slightly full skirt.

I don’t have any scoop other than what I just read on Facebook, but apparently Cap Hill vintage shop Kaleidoscope Vision has moved down south to California. What!? Bummer. However, they’re having one last huge sale in Seattle on Friday and Saturday, June 21 and 22 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. with great deals on vintage clothing, books, housewares, sewing supplies, textile and more. You can always shop KV's amazing inventory of vintage online, but really, Seattle’s loss is LA’s gain.

The Seattle Art Museum's cool new Japanese fashion exhibit, Future Beauty: 30 Years of Japanese Fashion, is opening on June 27 and we couldn't be more excited.

If you have yet to pop in to the newly remodeled Baby & Company, June 27 is a great day to do so—it’s the first day of their big sale, a hotly anticipated event by Seattle’s most stylish women and men. Expect 30 to 70 percent off clothing and accessories from Rundholz, Ter Et Bantine, Antoni & Alison (my personal fave) and By Malene Birger. Also, and this is amazing news: $25 and $50 treasure bins. A must-do, not-to-be-missed, put-in-ink-in-your-calendar shopping opportunity.

We've lucked out with the weather so far this June, but that hasn't stopped River Burke, designer and owner of River Song jewelery and store in Madison Valley, from embracing the traditional June Gloom with a big old sale. From now until June 28, save up to 40 percent off in-store purchases and a flat 30 percent when shopping online (use code JUNEGLOOM). We're loving her sunny fiesta of spring style.

This summer Cap Hill retailer NuBe Green is taking to the streets in their new 24-foot mobile solar powered boutique fashion out of a salvaged shipping container. Its first stop is at Bellevue’s Cupcake Royale, right in the heart of downtown Bellevue and will be there from June 20 through September 15. Inside you’ll find a slimmed down inventory of the same great stuff you love at NuBe Green’s brick and mortar, all designed and manufactured in the USA, delightfully packaged in a large rectangular box.

One of my most fave local designers, Michael Cepress, is hosting a show on June 21 at the Century Ballroom, featuring both men’s and women’s collections. This is excellent news for those of us ladies who love his menswear so much that we’ve considered having him make us a suit just to get to work with him.

Creative power couple Leah Lawrence, the designer and proprietress behind swimwear and mercantile Drifting Arrows (, and Billy Bartels, the designer of jewelry line Vim Beget ( launched Baleen, a new jewelry collaboration last April. The two fabricate everything in their Ballard studio, mostly out of brass (to keep prices low, Lawrence says) with the addition of gemstones, tassels and wooden beads.
