Kids, Seattle outdid itself last night: the fun and fashionable were out and about all over town from Eastside to west for Fashion's NIght Out, shopping, gabbing and ready for fall fashion (despite the summer-like heat, though nobody complained too much).
It’s been a big week around here: Our fall shopping and style-packed September issue has hit the newsstands. In case you missed it, earlier this week, I gave readers a little behind the scenes peek at pulling the issue together –and trying to fit in over 100 local finds–here.
Sometimes I am my own worst enemy: Back in March when I first suggested to Editorial Director Rachel Hart that we feature only local products in our fall fashion and shopping issue, I had no idea what I was getting myself into (or that I would play stylist for a day!).
Moms (and Dads) of Seattle tired of schlepping your kids to the pool and getting your cute shoes all wet, rejoice! I have discovered a comfy new pair of shoes for you to knock around in and wear from the pool to the grocery store and even to work if you're lucky to be in a creative line of work as I am.
Bellevue is about to have a new couture queen: Famed Eastside bridal and evening wear designer Madina Vadache has returned home after several years in the other East and will open her new couture fashion boutique in the Elements Building next month.
Snag some late summer wear at the following local sales this weekend:
Menswear retailer Road is offering up to 60 percent discounts on madras shirts, blazers and chic men’s shorts this month at both their Bellevue and downtown locales. Extra bonus: select denim and pants are buy one and get one free.
You know, some people might take it personally. But when Ben Huh, CEO of Seattle-based ICanHasCheezburger.com popped up as the number 10 offender on GQ’s worst-dressed men of Silcon Valley list this month, he took the honor in classic good humor— and then issued the publication a challenge.
This year, we upped the ante: The 12 Seamless in Seattle finalists debuted on the runway at our first-ever fashion show last June. In an ultimate “make it work” imperative, contestants had to craft a look for the show—made from recycled water bottle labels, no less.

As we finish up our fall fashion and shopping issue this week, I seem to have accumulated quite a few pretty things on my desk, which will appear throughout the September issue. And while I am going to make you wait on the other 50 finds until the issue comes out, here’s a sneak peek at four locally-made favorites currently sitting on my desk (which I am loathe to return next week!):

Well, the big day has arrived: As Nordstrom devotees know, today kicks off the store’s mega Anniversary Sale (loved this tweet from Nordy’s Sanda Belaire this morning with a before and after-opening shot of the downtown store shoe department! Apparently I should have taken today off of work to join the other ladies). So as we are all in the sale huntress frame of mind today, here are three other sales to get thee to this weekend:
There were a lot of jewelry pieces, handbags and shoes hanging around the office this week (check out the September issue to find out why!) and if you want to assemble a gaggle of girls lightning quick, just start throwing those things out on a table. The appeal of the accessory is simple: they can instantly change an outfit without putting a huge dent in your budget. Now that summer is upon us, here are three favorite accessories for the season—simply throw on jeans, a tank and one of these locally-made babies and you’re ready to go:
